Tesoro Tejon information page
Over the years top manufacturers have launched new machines on a
regular basis, some models with very little difference to the one we
purchases 6 months earlier.
I personally believe metal technology has ran it's course for a
while and manufacturers just keep adding gimmicks and switches to
make the new models more appealing.
Tesoro are just as guilty as the rest, although I feel they have
stuck to a good recipe on all but a few models.
Back in the old days the Tesoro Silver Sabre won the day with
performance and simplicity and to this day Tesoro have tried to keep
that winning formula throughout it's range....with the odd hiccup
Lets take a look at the Tejon
What features do we have
Power (sensitivity) : The Tejon has far to much..which is
better than not enough I guess, inexperienced users still try
to run the Tejon flat out like their old Tesoro and wonder why that
have problems.
Discrimination : In fact 2 discriminations... use just one if
you wish, I use both and set discrimination 2 to suit my site
conditions i.e. reject small Iron using disc 1 and slightly bigger
Iron with alt disc 2, push the trigger forward to
switch from one disc to the other.
Threshold : Required for ground balancing and pin pointing ,
also switch disc 1 off until it clicks and the Tejon turns into an all metal
hoard hunting machine with an adjustable background threshold.
Tone control : How many times has someone said
I don't like the tone well with the Tejon you can simply set
it to suit your preferences using the rotary tone control....click
it full anti-clockwise and it clicks into a factory pre-set with a
VCO pin point....VCO (voltage controlled
oscillator) is ideal for hearing the size and depth of a buried
target.
Manual ground balance : Very simple to use, ideal for
calibrating new coils and tuning the machine to your site
conditions. It's not stricty true but think of the ground balance as a soil discrimination.
;I always show
people how to do this, it is also covered in my
Tejon secrets set up guide, Dan my 10 year old picked it up first time, so I
kind of arrogantly use this as a guide line to see if new purchasers
are ready for a Tejon.
Quite often those who cant grasp the ground balancing technique are
the people who have problems learning a higher level machine. The fixed
/ manual ground balance mod is available from
Pentechnic however manual ground balancing
should take approx 5 seconds.
Tesoro Tejon trigger switch :
Middle is the pre-set
disc 1 back is pin point,
forward switches from disc 1 to alt disc 2
So there are the features, no gimmicks just enough to cover every inland searching scenario you will need.
One very important feature not mentioned above is the weight and
balance, the Tejon is effortless to use with no strain on the arms
or wrist and just as deep as the heavy models out there (with equal
coil sizes).
Take all this into consideration and Im sure you will agree the
Tejon is probably one of the best site machines available for serious
detectorists who want the best no gimmicks tool for the job.
What to expect when using the Tejon
The Tejon is quite a busy machine to use with plenty of ticks and
spits in the audio, this is all good information for you to process,
you may dig a little odd shaped iron...big deal... just remember
Iron artefacts are as collectable as most others. I have a beautiful
decorated tiny iron buckle which every machine rejects except the Tejon.
Searching pasture with the Tejon
The Tejon is not at it's best on pasture I have found iron identification can be tricky and I believe Tesoro should take note and address this observation, however use the Tejon on ploughed farmland or stubble and it's an unbeatable machine.
My theory
Dig 100 targets on an Ancient site, if between 10-20 are mis shaped iron you
are working the Tejon to it's full potential.
Finally and very important
There will be fields where your Tejon will fail to produce
and some other machines will appear to be magic wands.
I have tested several machines and can honestly say there is no
machine for every site. Even the same site on a different day
appears to make a difference.
The Tejon has the ability to find targets at very good depths….providing the soil conditions are suitable and the
operator understands his or her machine.
After market coils can be an advantage
Ideal for tiny targets and small gold the new 5.75" widescan coil
Headphones
Headphones can make or break the Tejon, choose a good set that matches the
audio pitch you prefer, as with so many processor machines incorrect
headphones can limit the audio capabilities resulting in poor target identification....and
an ear bashing.
Black UK Tejon with sprite headphones
Take a look at the new
Sprite Digital
headphones
We recommend using Sprite Digital headphones with the Tesoro Tejon simply because the sound quality is second to none, here is some feedback :
"Excellent target separation resulting in vastly improved iron rejection"
"Very comfortable the sound is nothing like anything I have used before"
"They sound fantastic on my Tesoro Lobo to"
"I really become dialled into the machine when I use Sprites it like I am man and machine in harmony"
The crops will be off any day so be ready this year don't spend your valuable detecting time messing with programmes and walking at a snails pace, go and get results with the Tejon it's a fantastic site machine.
