ORIGINAL OADS MK1 (vented)
NO LONGER AVAILABLE
"These metal detector headphones are the dogs dangly bits" for only £30.00
They look like normal headphones what makes these headphones
different to others ?
Take look below at the speaker set up
The speaker driver unit and coil are
mounted on a podium, the back cup is vented allowing the detectorist to hear
outside sounds, ideal if you wish to block out most wind noise but hear what
coming up behind you, it's witchcraft.
The sound quality is excellent making Iron and target identification much more
precise which is required on todays digital or multi tone machines.
Try the new OADS on your Xp, Explorer, Tesoro Tejon,Cibola,Vaquero, Laser
Trident, and XLT just to name a few..
Half the price of most hand built units with twice the quality
sealed podium speaker
driver units
No more sweaty ears
Soft leatherette ear cups (Koss type)
Crystal clear sound quality
In line volume control
Tough single sided lead
Light weight
Gold plated connectors
Chunky lead that can be adjusted in length which won't
stretch
At last hear the pin point probe without removing your
headphones
Having now seen what great value for money they
represent I can not even attempt to compete, so I must regrettably announce that
our own X Phone range for digital machines made by Pentechnic will only be available
through special order.
I will have demo sets available at the weekend
wanderers digs come over and try them on your Minelab.

Notes
We have noticed some after market hand built
headphones can distort the machines audio tone. They sound fine in air waving
targets across the coil but when confronted with "real" in the field detecting....
iron identification and comfort can be a problem.
Try your current metal detector headphones at home on a stereo, the music will sound loud with no
finesse, quality is what's required these days for tone ID and Digital metal detectors not
loudness.
That is why Minelab now supply Koss UR 30 headphones with new
purchases....sound quality and not loudness.
Loud headphones are perfectly adequate for searching in busy environments and
for those hard of hearing perhaps with older
analogue machines.
OADS HEADPHONES WITH THE XP Gold Maxx
There are no headphones that can exactly match the superior quality of the XP
backphone, Its not just the speaker it's also the pod size and wall thickness
etc. We have put XP speakers into aftermarket ear defenders and they sound
really bad.
The OADS headphones are a very close match to the Xphones but not a 100% match
to the original XP backphones, however build quality is far better.
The straight lead
The straight lead will not be a problem while detecting,in fact you can use it
to your advantage.
It is very chunky and will not stretch out of shape like cheaper coiled leads
some headphones use. Those of you who lay their machine down when digging will
know exactly what I mean.
At the bottom of this page there are some simple instructions on how to use the
headphones with this type of lead and how it can be easily adjusted to your
style of detecting.
THOSE WHO TESTED THE HEADPHONES FOUND NO PROBLEM USING THE STRAIGHTTHE LEAD !
Independant headphone review
By Sheddy
I heard about these headphones and because I'm a male, I had to try them
out.
I have a strict policy .... if something is good, tell people. If
something is bad, keep thy gob shut, unless asked.
When the headphones arrived, they came in a mass produced box, prettily
packaged. This isn't a good start for me, it normally means that they
are built for general purpous use. As anyone who has tried different
headphones out knows, general purpouse headphones are generally not good
with detectors. In with the 'phones was a 1/4" adapter as the fitted
jack is 3.5mm.
The first thing that I found to moan about was the straight lead. I have
always used curly leads so I wasn't impresed at this straight one. I was,
however, wrong. Straight leads rock!! I had a whole day of detecting
without the headphones being ripped from my head when the spring of the
lead got too much for the stretch of the cable while digging. I am a
convert!
The cups of the headphones are surrounded with the same stuff as the Koss
UR-30's that come with the Minelab Explorers. The Koss 'phones are amongst
the most comfortable ones I have used, but they do make your ears sweat.
These OADS 'phones have a space between the
speakers and the cup which is open to the air save for a material
covering. This means that not only are they comfortable, but the allow air
to circulate and keep your ears at a more reasonable temperature, not that
yesterday was hot, but there was no hint of sweat at all. This air
circulation has got to be a good thing, I read a couple of weeks ago that
wearing ear-peices while listening to an I-pod double the mount of
bacteria in your ears every 1/2 hour. That can't be a good thing - can it?
There is a dual headband on these phones, one to keep it all together and
another below it that automatically streches to the arc of your head.
All in, very comfortable phones. Springy enough to prevent them falling
off but not so tight as to render them uncomfortable. Light enough not to
worry you and nice, soft cups.
When I phoned up for them, Gary told me that they might not be 100% on the
GoldMaxx but certainly better than a lot of other aftermarket headphones -
he was wrong! O.K., the tones they produced were different to what I am
used to with my usual (£60) 'phones, but it was easier to differentiate
the tones with the OADS. The signals are very
crisp and the fuzzy edge to the large iron signals is very easy to hear.
I gave the OADS 'phones to Hairy Dave for him
to try out on his Explorer. Dave is a non-commital kind of guy, but when
he gave them back he declared them as "good". He also wanted to know how
much they cost and where he could get them. Because I know Dave is the
quiet type, I take that as a rave review from him!
The way in which these 'phones produce the tones is easily on par with
much more expensive 'phones and couple with the comfort and air-flo around
my ears, they will probably be my headphones of choice.
My 'phones came from
Garys Detecting but I would imagine that most detector suppliers will
have them in stock soon. The Price? A WHOLE £29.50 plus p&p .... and thats
remarkable considering the quality of build and tone.

Headphones slipping off your head
If your OADS headphones keep slipping off your head, you simply have
them the wrong way around. ENSURE THE POD WITH THE LEAD IS ON YOUR
LEFT EAR.
How to set up your OADS
headphones for use with a metal detector
You will need a spring "c" clip (keyring type")
And 2 x Zip ties
The idea of this set up is to keep the excess lead inside your shirt or
coat only allowing a desired length between your belt loop and detector to
be exposed.
1. place your headphones on your head and plug them into
your detector.
2. Stand in you usual search position
and make a note where the lead will be fixed to your belt buckle, then
attach the c clip using a zip tie allowing a slight friction as you may
wish to adjust this in the field.(See Pic)
Some machines will require the lead entering the jack plug to have a reverse on it, you
can do this by simply reversing the wire parallel to the plug and
attaching the other zip tie, this will also act as a very effective
strain relief.
(See pic)
This method may be required for
Tesoro/Laser Tejon, Hawkeye and all M/Max models
Whites XLT, DFX, 6000 Pro, MXT
Minelab Explorer, Sovereign, Musketeer
It will also be a good idea to place
some tape or elastic band around the volume wheel when you have adjusted
it to your requirements.
